Due to the possible effects of silver mercury fillings (amalgam) on our health and the poor
aesthetics’ we no longer provide amalgam fillings. Alternative treatments are offered.
General Dentistry

All forms of dentistry can be carried out at our practice. When required, we also refer patients to specialist dental surgeons (e.g. orthodontists, periodontists, maxillofacial surgeons etc.) This provides our patients with the best possible treatment, tailored to their needs.

Oral cancer screening is routinely carried out at every dental examination. The hard and soft tissues of the mouth are checked for any sign of abnormality.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Your smile sends a powerful message about your character and confidence to others. If you are not totally happy with your smile, your dentist can, with the aid of modern techniques, suggest a full treatment plan with options for you to improve your smile. Many common aesthetic problems that are easily improved are:

discoloration of teeth or fillings
gaps between teeth
missing teeth
crowded teeth
poorly shaped or chipped teeth
badly positioned teeth which affect your bite.

Previous dental work (old fillings and crowns) can become cosmetically poor and may require replacing for cosmetic reasons. Our surgery, with its modern equipment and regular staff training, can make use of all the latest dental techniques to achieve the smile you want. Aesthetic methods to improve your smile include:

Tooth whitening
Implants
Porcelain inlays and veneers
Porcelain-bonded crowns and bridges
Replacement of amalgam fillings with white restorations.

We provide a cosmetic consultation service to inform patients of posssible treatment options to improve the aesthetics of their smile. This could form part of a full dental examination, or a more informal discussion of areas of concern. More information is available at reception.

Implants TOP

Missing teeth (single or mutiple) can be replaced using dental implants. This is a titanium fixture placed into the jaw which acts as a 'false root' upon which a crown or bridge can be placed. This is a permanent fixture which cannot be removed by the patient. Retention of loose dentures can also be improved with the use of implant support.

Who would benefit from implants?
Anyone who has lost single, multiple or all their teeth. Future anticipated tooth loss (badly damaged teeth, failing root fillings, advanced gum disease) can also be palnned for replacement with implants, thus eliminating the psychological effects of tooth loss.

What advantages do implants offer over conventional treatment?
Implants look function like natural teeth. Lost teeth can be placed without damage to the adjacent teeth, thus preventing bone loss, which occurs if missing teeth are not replaced.

Are implants suitable for my age-group?
Implants were orginally designed for older patients for the retention and stability of full dentures. Single or mutiplue tooth replacements are suitable for all age groups except children.

Can the body reject implants?
Dental implants are made of bio-compatable material. This is quickly accepted by the body and results in one of the most successful procedures in the medical/dental field.

Is the procedure painful?
Most patients experience little or no discomfort during the procedure. Implant placement is carried out under local anaesthetic. However, we do offer sedation for nervous patients.

Are dental implants a new procedure?
The first dental implants were placed more than 40 years ago. Clinical studies have shown dental implants to have a very high long-term success rate.

Tooth Whitening Systems TOP

Teeth may become discolored in a number of ways such as age, tobacco, certain foods and beverages. Simple toothbrushing, including using special toothpastes, will do little to whiten teeth. Professional cleaning with an oral hygienist will help, by removing superficial staining.
Many scientific studies have shown professional tooth whitening, using hydrogen peroxide, to be safe and effective in whitening teeth.

We offer an "at-home" tooth whitening system. This involves using a bleaching tray custom made for your mouth, and bleaching gel. We will show you how to use these products to achieve the result you desire. This system means that you control the final shade of your smile, from one to several shades lighter.

Tooth whitening does not involve any pain (occcasionally some transient sensitivity may be experienced) and avoids any extensive dental treatment required for other aesthetic procedures.

Crowns and Bridges TOP

  Crowns (caps)
Porcelain or porcelain bonded to metal to give full coverage to teeth weakened by old fillings, decay or breakages. Also used for cosmetic improvement of teeth with unaesthetic appearance.

Bridge
This is used to replace gaps caused by lost teeth, using a porcelain or porcelain bonded to metal structure. This is supported by the teeth adjacent to the gap. These adjacent teeth usually require preparation (drilling). Alternative treatment for a fixed restoration to replace a lost tooth is a dental implant. This does not require any drilling on adjacent teeth.

CEREC (All Porcelain Inlays) TOP

The latest computer technology is utilised to supply our patients with all-ceramic restorations in a single dental appointment. This CAD-CAM (computer aided design - computer aided manufacture) technique eliminates the need for impressions, temporary fillings and multiple dental appointments (with associated injections), as well as providing our patients with strong, aesthetic restorations. This technique also enables us to retain maximum tooth structure, by replacing only the defective filling or tooth structure with a well-fitting porcelain inlay.

The following can be completed with this technology:
Inlays
Crowns
Veneers
Amalgam replacement.

The advantages of completing treatment in a single visit:
No impressions required
No temporary fillings/crowns
Less time spent in chair
Very strong, cosmetic solutions for long term dental health.

Veneers TOP

These are porcelain facings which are bonded onto the front of teeth to improve your smile. Veneers can change shape, colour and postion of teeth. Suitable patients for this treatment are those with:

Discoloured teeth.
Spaces between teeth.
Teeth positioned out of alignment.
White fillings with poor aesthetics.
Fractured teeth.

Usually minimum tooth preparation is required for the placement of veneers.
